Community Advocacy Awards

Below are the categories of this year’s Community Advocacy Awards. If you would like to submit a nominee, you can do so here until April 15, 2024.

Wayne Scott Community Service Award

A person or group that displays exemplary service over a period of years to the community in the cause of road safety, a healthier community, and sustainable transportation. The award includes a cash component of $1,000.00.

  • 2023: Brown and Storey Architects

Advocate of the Year

A person or group that has demonstrated particular passion, perseverance, and creativity in the cause of road safety.

Past winners:

  • 2021: Jun Nogami

  • 2022: Jess Spieker of Friends & Families for Safe Streets

  • 2023: Safe Parkside and Faraz Gholizadeh

Emerging Road Safety Champion

Award given to a youth, youthful person, and/or group, that is new to road safety advocacy and has demonstrated particular creativity, diligence, and passion in their work for safe roads.

Past winners:

  • 2021: Elijah Nangwale (individual) and Students of the Overlea Bridge Project (group)

  • 2022: Ingrid Buday (individual) and Sustainable Mississauga (group)

  • 2023: Robin Richardson and YONGE4ALL (combined award)

Business Road Safety Champion

A business group or leader who has demonstrated initiative and resolve in the cause of road safety.

Past winners:

  • 2021: Liza Lukashevsky of Nuthouse on Bloor Street

  • 2023: Dave Edwards, nrby logistics

  • 2023: Bloor Annex BIA and general manager Brian Burchell

Suburban Road Safety Champion

A person or group that advocates for road safety improvements in a suburban community.

Past winners:

  • 2021: Daniela Hernández Cuadra of Cycle York Community Bike Centre

  • 2022: Nithursan Elamuhilan 

  • 2023: L’Amoreaux-Huntingwood-Agincourt Cycling & Walking Advocates
