E-bikes - Law reform
Electric bikes open the world of cycling to far more people. E-bikes help to flatten hills, or address some of the challenges of advancing age or physical disabilities, or extend the range of a normal bicycle. At the same time, we recognize that the power, weight, acceleration, and speed of some e-bikes is intimidating to other cyclists. We want everyone to feel safe on their bikes. This is why we are exploring the best approaches to e-bike regulation and engaging the public, whether they ride a bike or not, to get their ideas. We believe that the problem is not the rider, but the regulator. This is a problem that can be solved. The result will allow for the full potential of e-bikes to be realized for the benefit of public health, affordability and the environment.
